Project Summary

American Family Insurance hosted a 24 Hour Hackathon to deliver a functioning prototype demonstrating how Augmented Reality could be utilized throughout the company. I was the team lead and we placed 3rd.

Process

I began my process by assembling the team of various different backgrounds to start exploring what we thought could be useful, yet practical to create.

Inspired by directions within games like The Division & Overwatch, we came up with an idea to help employees around the AmFam campus stop getting lost.

Execution

From there, I starting assigning tasks for everyone on the team to start working on. We soon had a working prototype.

As the developers were working on  the waypoint app, the other half started to explore how we could push this concept further. American Family Insurance is the main sponsor of two huge events in Wisconsin. Summerfest, the world's largest music festival, and the American Family Insurance Championship, a PGA tournament with celebrities. We then conducted empathy interviews with individuals on the marketing team to see how plausible it would be to bring this to those two events. Everyone was ecstatic at the idea of being led to where the stage of your favorite band was playing, or understanding where a certain golf player was while you looked at the Leaderboard.

Outcome

Our team placed third in the 24 hour Hackathon and finally got some sleep. Many uses of Augmented Reality continue to be explored.
